Dar ul Sukun - Home for the Senior Citizen

Old age is a time when we need the love and care of our loved ones most. However, in our country some old people are put in homes for the aged and are conveniently forgotten by their children. While the Darul Sukun has built special homes for the elderly and provides them the care they need. A team of Red Club planned to visit Dar ul Sukun on 30th June, 2017 at Catholic Colony, M.A Jinnah Road opposite Quaid-e-Azam Mazzar Karachi. I was wondering how we would feel when we saw them and how they live away from their families. But when we entered in the building, we saw everything was well organized. Elderly people are the users of health and social care services but sometimes services have not adequately addressed needs but this Centre is the first ever comprehensive strategy to ensure fair, high quality, integrated health and social care services for elderly people. The core objective of the program is to make sure that all elderly people and their care takers are always treated with respect, dignity and fairness. We spoke to the patients and heard about the food they are given and the place they live in and I found their plight tragic. We had a good time speaking about their hobbies, their daily routines that work for them. There is no substitute for one's own home; however we appreciate the efforts of the center which provides complete housing services day and night. It is not the center for working people. It is a place for marginalized and abandon Senior Citizens and they have a liberty to enjoy as they wish for.
